Loving Creation is our Earth and Environment Justice movement at Hornsey Parish Church

The Loving Creation Group at Hornsey Parish Church exists to respond to God's cry to love His creation by increasing awareness and appreciation of the world around us. We do this through learning, liturgy and action; learning about nature, sharing our learning and ideas and providing opportunities for people to take steps, however small, to contribute towards creating a more eco-loving world.

Hornsey Parish Church achieved the A Rocha Bronze Eco Church status in 2019 for our work across the five Eco Church categories of Worship and Teaching; Buildings; Land; Community and Global action; Lifestyle. Our work continues as we aim to continually discern what we as a community can uniquely offer in this time of crisis.

We have a number of different events throughout the month of October to

celebrate our Love for God's creation as part of the Harvest Festival. Do come and join us!

Sowing the Seeds Festival 2024

Here are some key events and dates for your diary:

Welcome Wednesday Lunch

Wednesday 16th October: 12.00 noon in the Church Room at Hornsey Parish Church

Bring and share organic lunch - join us for food and fellowship in our Church Room, where the conversations and company is as wide as the variety on our menu!

Loving Creation Guided Tour of Walthamstow Wetlands

Saturday 19th October: Meet at Tottenham Hale Station 10.00am

A guided tour and circular walk of approximately three-miles, on flat terrain on dedicated footpaths around Walthamstow Wetlands, an internationally important nature reserve which has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). The tour will include the reservoirs and nature reserve, the historical Engine Room, Coppermill Tower (originating from 1066 and is in the Domesday book) and an introduction to their Sensory Garden, which was created for children with special education needs. If the weather allows, we will follow the towpath along the River Lea back to Tottenham Hale station. Walking shoes recommended, as footpaths can be wet, and slippery if muddy, especially after rain. There is also an option for lunch at the Ferry Boat Inn (https://www.pubanddining.co.uk/ferry-boat-tottenham/food-and-drink) after the visit.

Please inform Jean Wong at jeanwong.hpc@gmail.com by Friday 18th October if you intend to join us.

Pet Blessing

Saturday 26th October: 3.00pm at Hornsey Parish Church

Join us for a special service of love for our animals and fellowship for their guardians!

Bring your pets, a photo or perhaps just your memories of them for a special prayerful Per Service and Blessing. And if they or their owner are unable to attend in person, please bring along a photo. In addition we will be holding a one minute silence and lighting a candle in remembrance of the pets and their owners who have passed.

To minimise any stressors, please be mindful of the following:

All dogs, large or small, on leads (not extension) please and ensure they are being supervised and handled by adults during the service. All larger animals must be under the supervision of adults; horses and ponies to be bridled, alpacas, etc to be haltered outside the church. All small furries, cats and birds, in animal carriers throughout. Nervous animals may prefer to stay at home and we can bless the relationship between the owner and the pet from a photo. Fish and reptilian pets needs to be in containers with lids on, spiders and snakes also. And if we have to conduct the service inside due to poor weather, please keep your pets in the pews, and not in the aisles. Our service will be shorter than normal to avoid any stress to the animals.

Autumn Colours Ramble

Saturday 26th October: 10.30am

Enjoy a ramble with our Church Ramblers Group at Broxbourne Woods to see the Autumn colours at its best - get in touch with Richard Hodges or Jean Wong at general@hornseyparishchurch.org for more details.
